THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK: The Ugly Truth of Our Nation Political Quarrels

Yesterday rumours about the possible declaration of the State of Emergency raise an uproar in our society with many people and opposition parties criticized how the state of emergency possibly issued by our Prime Minister, Muhyiddin bin Haji Muhammad Yassin, would damage our democratic system in the long run.

However, that is what we have already expected even if our government intends to promulgate a state of emergency. Our political system has already lost its principle since the quarrels between the ruling and opposition politicians in the Malaysian political arena. Like the 'party-hopping' norm, the state of emergency is only a drastic measure for the politicians to fight for their power.
It takes two to make a quarrel. The prevalence of dirty political measures this year was not caused unilaterally by either side of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) or the Barisan Nasional (BN). Many of the then opposition MPs 'hopped' to the ruling party after the Pakatan Harapan government took office in 2018, and the Sabah state government change also relied on the so-called 'frog politics'. At that time, there are voices in our civil society raising public and political awareness to the problems and potential threats on our new established 'frog politics' norm to the democratic system. Unfortunately, the reminder was not squarely addressed by those in power.
Although it is shameful for our Perikatan National government and Prime Minister, what our opposition parties did is disappointing likewise. Instead of conscientiously helping the needs to gain the support of the people, those opposition parties, who have repeatedly criticized the ruling party for pursuing dirty political methods, actually decided to instigate other people's representatives to take over the government.
Today, the people’s representatives have abandoned the people’s entrustment and launched a coup for personal gain. In the future, the stability of our government will always undeniably be questioned. Not to mention that a stable government can guarantee our economic growth and attract foreign investment, the person-in-charged who hunger for power may resort to worse political methods for their political gain. For example, as it is now, the declaration of the State of Emergency.
Think about it. If one day, launching the State of Emergency is as normal as the people's representative 'frog-hopping', what are the new methods that unprincipled and unethical politicians will use to either fight for or protect their power? How much harms and treats will it cause to our country's democratic system and the people who lived in our beloved nation?
Today's political violent battles have wiped out the credibility of many parties and politicians, if those who are responsible refused to reflection upon their wrongdoings, perhaps, a bottom-up civil movement is the best way for the people to solve this miserable chaos.

On 6 May 2021, Palestinian residents protested against the Israeli Supreme Court’s upcoming decision to evict Palestinian residents from Sheikh Jarrah. UM Pleases the Government Due to Change in Political Climate

UM was previously proud to announce that UM students enjoyed student autonomy and bragged that the organising of the campus elections are completely controlled by its students (CEC). However, it has now become a puppet of the authorities, blindly following policies which were put in place to interfere with campus democracy! Since the change of the Federal Government in 2018, the opportunity for student autonomy to grow arose.
